98% accurate and helpful site... visit all

The 3G works fine in Canada other than limited in NWT. As mention before, the 3G; amazon making money from you buying from them will work almost everywhere on North America! Good luck, God bless all and consistent and constant advancing Amazon Kindle DX and DXG's maximum potential communication possibility, thank you all! Cheers

Hi Tony, Thank you for your comment and congratulations on your purchase. This post is now out of date as Amazon has released the Kindle "World Edition" for all of its Kindle product line. The world edition features a cellular connection that will operate outside of the United States in many countries around the world, including Canada. If you purchased one of these you will enjoy all the benefits I speak of in my post as well as the Whispernet and a nicely upgraded screen. Enjoy your purchase!

My wife has MS and many of the issues that Matthew's Father has (weakness etc.) but also problems with her eyes, as they "jump" when trying to read. She's an avid reader and I'm hoping the Kindle DX will work for her. I ordered one off of Amazon, it's due to arrive in the next day or two. I must admit I have been some what naive in that I never knew of any issues with wireless in the US vs Canada etc. I just "assumed" (ya, I know the saying .. lol) that I could order one and all would be wonderful. In any event, it's on the way and now that I've actually been researching my purchase (after the fact - lol , typical guy I guess ..) I think all will be fine and it was likely a good choice even though a physical connection to a PC wil be required for putting books on it. Not a big deal in my mind anyway. Well .. here's to hoping it works for my wife well enough that she can continue to be an avid reader.

Internet Explorer 8 is very good because it is as stable as Opera. I hate the previous versions of IE like IE6 because it hangs frequently. |

As far as I know the units are hard wired for Sprint USA networks and I don't know of any way to make it look like the international version so you can use it outside of the USA. I will keep my eyes and ears tuned and will report back if I hear of anything.

Thanks again for your comments Matthew!

Hi Shane,

Yes, i was trying to use WhisperNet, but was hopeful since Amazon recently released the DX internationally. I wouldn't be surprised if my U.S.-born unit is somehow hard-coded to work only in the states, but i was wondering if there were some way to reconfigure it to make it look like a Canuck. I sent a support email to Amazon a couple of weeks ago but there's been nothing but crickets in response.
